BOTOX/DYSPORT
Botox and Dysport are widely recognized as the leading treatments for fine lines and wrinkles. These neuromodulators work by blocking the nerve signals that control targeted muscles, temporarily reducing muscle movement and smoothing the skin. As we age, our bodies produce less collagen and elastin—key proteins that keep skin firm and youthful. Repeated muscle movements from facial expressions gradually cause wrinkles, as the skin loses its ability to bounce back. Regular Botox or Dysport treatments can help prevent the development of deep-set wrinkles by limiting muscle activity. While aging affects everyone differently, there has been a growing trend of younger clients, particularly in their early 20s, seeking "Baby Botox" for wrinkle prevention, influenced by its increasing media popularity.

What is the neuromodulator treatment process like?
Neuromodulator treatments use a fine needle, making the procedure virtually painless, typically feeling like a slight "pinch." Each facial muscle is treated individually to smooth wrinkles and can even lift specific areas. Many first-time clients worry about looking overdone, but when performed by a skilled professional, the results are natural, providing a refreshed and youthful appearance.
Where can neuromodulators be injected?
The most common areas treated with Botox and Dysport include facial expression lines such as frown lines between the brows, forehead wrinkles, and smile lines (crow's feet around the eyes). Lesser-known areas include smoker's lines around the lips, chin dimples, and necklines. In addition to addressing fine lines and wrinkles, Botox and Dysport can also:
- Soften a gummy smile
- Lift the eyebrows
- Treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
- Relax jaw muscles to slim the face and relieve TMJ/Bruxism (teeth grinding)
- Reduce chronic migraines
- Tighten skin on the neck, combating signs of aging
How many units of Botox/Dysport do I need?
Neuromodulator treatments typically require 5-10 units per facial muscle. Larger areas, such as the underarms for hyperhidrosis or jaw muscles, may need a higher dosage for optimal results. A consultation will help determine the exact amount needed to achieve your desired outcome.

How long do neuromodulators last?
A quick 10-minute session can reduce signs of aging within 7 days, with no downtime, and results can last up to 4 months. Athletes or individuals with high metabolisms may experience quicker product absorption, requiring more frequent treatments. In these cases, using fewer units but scheduling treatments every 2 months can keep lines soft while being more budget-friendly. With consistent treatments, as recommended, it’s possible to prevent new lines from forming over time.
What are the common side effects of neuromodulators?
According to clinical studies, less than 4% of patients experience temporary eyelid or brow heaviness (ptosis) or mild swelling, which may cause visual disturbances. This can typically be treated with prescription eye drops. Other possible side effects include:
- Discomfort at the injection site
- Headaches
- Dry eyes or dry mouth
- Unwanted appearance in the treated area
- Overly arched eyebrows, which can be corrected with a touch-up treatment
While the neurotoxin remains localized at the injection site, any manipulation of the area may cause it to spread to nearby muscles, potentially leading to brow or eyelid ptosis.
How do I prep before and after my neuromodulator treatment?
Before your neuromodulator appointment at Vamped Cosmetics, please avoid taking blood thinners like Advil or Aspirin for at least 24 hours before and after treatment. If you're on a prescribed blood thinner, do not stop your medication, but please be aware that you may be at a higher risk of bruising and bleeding. Omega-3 supplements and certain multivitamins can also thin the blood, so it’s best to stop taking them 2-3 days before your treatment. Additionally, please refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.
If you're prone to bruising or swelling, consider taking Arnica, a natural anti-inflammatory supplement available at most health stores or pharmacies.
After your treatment, avoid wearing hats, heavy lifting, exercise, makeup application, or washing your face for 3 hours. Manipulating the area with touch or pressure can cause the neuromodulator to migrate, increasing the risk of eyelid or brow droop. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us.
