DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a natural substance found in the body, primarily in the skin, connective tissue, and eyes. HA’s main function is to retain moisture and keep tissues lubricated. As we age, collagen and elastin levels begin to decline around the age of 25, dropping by about 2% each year. By your late 20s, the production of collagen and elastin slows significantly. Dermal fillers are used to restore volume loss in areas that need it, reducing the appearance of deep lines, sagging skin and other signs of aging.

As more people seek non-surgical ways to maintain a youthful appearance, soft tissue fillers have become a popular choice. Unlike surgical procedures, which offer permanent results, dermal fillers are more affordable, adjustable, and provide a natural-looking outcome.

What is the treatment process like?

The duration of a dermal filler treatment typically ranges from 5 to 30 minutes, depending on the injection area and the number of syringes needed. Results are visible immediately but improve over the course of one week, as the product is hydrophilic and absorbs water from surrounding cells to enhance volume and smoothness.

The procedure involves minimal discomfort, and numbing cream is applied to ensure a more comfortable experience. Additionally, our soft tissue fillers contain lidocaine, further helping to reduce any discomfort during treatment.

Where can dermal fillers be injected?

Soft tissue fillers are most commonly used for lip augmentation and adding volume to the cheeks and cheekbones. Other areas include:

● Under Eyes for hollowness

● Chin and Jawline shaping

● Temples and hands

● Nasal bridge and tip

● Folds around the nose and mouth, known as marionette lines

● Full facial balancing known as a "soft lift"

● Deeper set lines and microinjections around the whole face known as "skin boosters"

How many syringes do I need?

The amount of filler needed varies based on the individual, the treatment area, and the desired result. For certain aesthetic goals, multiple treatments throughout the year may be necessary to build up Hyaluronic Acid in the targeted area. With consistent maintenance, less filler will be needed over time to achieve the same results.

For example, lip fillers typically require between half a syringe to 1 full syringe for a natural, plump look, with touch-ups every 6 months to a year. During your consultation, we will provide a more precise estimate of the number of syringes needed for your treatment.

How long do fillers last?

Fillers typically last between 4 months to a year, depending on individual factors. Since the body gradually breaks down Hyaluronic Acid over time, the longevity of your treatment can be influenced by lifestyle choices, metabolism, and age. For optimal results, it’s best to undergo a touch-up treatment within a year.

What are the common side effects of fillers?

The most common side effects of this treatment are bruising and swelling, which are natural inflammatory responses to injectables. Other potential side effects include:

  • Sensitivity to touch
  • Redness
  • Temporary changes in appearance
  • Infection
  • Product migration

A rare but serious side effect, known as vascular occlusion, will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation, along with how it can be treated. In case of any complications, Hyaluronidase—a special enzyme—can be used to address lumps, bumps, product migration, or even reverse vascular occlusion in emergency situations.

How do I prep before and after my filler treatment?

Before your filler appointment at Vamped Cosmetics, please avoid taking blood thinners like Advil or Aspirin for at least 24 hours before and after treatment. If you're on a prescribed blood thinner, do not stop your medication, but please be aware that you may be at a higher risk of bruising and bleeding. Omega-3 supplements and certain multivitamins can also thin the blood, so it’s best to stop taking them 2-3 days before your treatment. Additionally, please refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

If you're prone to bruising or swelling, consider taking Arnica, a natural anti-inflammatory supplement available at most health stores or pharmacies.

After the treatment, it is also recommended to not consume alcohol for 24 hours to reduce the amount of potential bruising and swelling. Taking Arnica and icing the treated area will also reduce these side effects. Gentle massages of the targeted area will help reduce inflammation. It is best to avoid taking a hot shower 24 hours post-treatment to reduce the intensity of inflammation which may cause prolonged irritation. It is recommended to refrain from dental work, air travel, facials, back massages, hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms for one week to avoid premature breakdown of the filler. Sleeping on your face is also not advised, as it causes prolonged pressure and can flatten the volume of the filler. For additional questions and/or concerns please contact us.
